How To Ship Internationally on Depop

of reading

Depop doesn't offer international shipping yet. Therefore the only way to ship internationally on Depop is to package on your own. The website that I always use to ship my packages overseas is Pirate Ship.

Step 1: Add the Address to Your Package

The first thing that you have to do to ship internationally on Depop is to put the address onto your package. You will need the following information from your buyer:

  • Name (A complete name and last name is recommended and mandatory for certain countries.)
  • Address
  • City
  • State
  • Zip code
  • Apartment number (optional but it's always better to add it)
  • Email address (optional)

Once you have those information simply enter them into Pirate Ship like this:

Step 2: Select a Type of Packages

Then you have a couple of choices when it comes to the type of package. It's important to note that packages that are shipped internationally will usually take between 1 to 3 months before reaching their destination, that's why it's important to select a durable package that will protect the item you are shipping.

Another thing that you have to keep in mind is that shipping an item in the box or a poly mailer may not always affect its cost when shipping internationally. For example, if I were to ship a sweater that weighs 1 pound and 8 ounces to Europe from the US it would cost $24 in a box and a poly mailer.

It is always best to test both choices before choosing the type of package you which to use to ship internationally on Depop. Once you have made your choice simply enter them into Pirate Ship.

Step 3: Fill Out the Custom Form

This step can be a bit scary for beginners but it's simply describing your packages by indicating:

  • What's in the package
  • Quantity
  • Value
  • Exact Weight
  • Harmonization Number
  • Country of Origin

Most of those informations are easy to find except for the harmonization number. The harmonization number (HS) is simply a number from the harmonized system that indicates the type of good you are shipping. To find that number you can simply use the Harmonized Tariff Schedule Search. Simply enter the type of item you are trying to search for and then look for the closet description. For example, if I were to ship a sweater made out of 100% cotton I would use the HS number: 6103.22.00.

Note: make sure before you complete this step that there are no restrictions on the item that you are trying to ship internationally on Depop. Some restrictions may apply depending on the country to certain types of products such as perfume, nail polish, lithium batteries, etc.

Step 4: Buy the Postage Label and Drop Off Your Package

Once you have completed the previous steps you can simply purchase the label you have created. Tape it with some clear tape onto the package that you want to ship internationally on Depop. Finally, you can drop your package at any USPS drop off location. If you want a receipt you can also give it to a USPS employee but it's optional. Your package will usually take between 3 weeks to 3 months to reach its destination. Note that due to Covid 19 international packages may be delayed for certain countries.
